Diomede Islands

Dec 31, 2016

Located in the middle of the Bering Strait, that islands are between mainland Alaska and Siberia. They consist of two rocky islands: The Big Diomede (Russia) and Little Diomede (EEUU). They are separated by the international Date Line so Big Diomede is almost a day ahead of Little Diomede. Exactly 21 hours ahead of Little Diomede. Because of this the islands are sometimes called Tomorrow Island (Big Diomede) and Yesterday Isle (Little Diomede).

My colleague Miguel Riaño wrote this wonderful story about the history and inhabitants of the diomedes islands.

I made a two versions map for desktop and mobile using photoshop mainly. I downloaded several pictures from Landsat 8 satellite from USGS's Earth Explorer and process the color bands with photoshop and labeled them with illustrator.

Go to proyect.
